Launching in 1993, Hellboy comics has developed an enormous cult following that has seen it spawn various films, video games and more.

The story follows the life of Hellboy, a well-meaningdemon who was summoned fromHelltoEarthas a “baby” demon byNazi occultists(spawning his hatred forNazis). He was discovered by theAllied Forces; amongst them, Professor Trevor Bruttenholm, who formed the United StatesBureau for Paranormal Research and Defense(BPRD). Although a bit gruff, Hellboy shows none of the malevolence thought to be intrinsic todemons, and has an ironic sense of humour. This is said to be because of his upbringing under Professor Bruttenholm, who raised him as a normal boy.
